A number of projects that will require large scale dredging, including the ones in the Arctic, have been announced in Russia.

The announcement was made at the recently held Dredging Conference in Moscow, where participants discussed current issues and challenges in the dredging industry.

According to the government officials, the scope of this year’s dredging works in water areas and canals of Russia will remain at the level of the previous year.

FSUE Rosmorport estimates that the dredging work in 2017 will result in the removal of approximately 10 – 12 mln cbm. Dredging operations at port Sabetta are to be completed by the end of the year, experts say that some 6.5 mln cbm of material is to be dredged there. Last year, about 20 mln cbm of material was excavated there.

As a reminder, in 2016, maintenance dredging was mainly performed on the Volga-Caspian, Kaliningrad, Azov-Don and Taganrog canals.

Besides repair works which involved dredging, the projects were performed in the water areas and at the access canals of Arkhangelsk, Makhachkala, Tuapse, Temryuk, Kavkaz, Yeisk, Shakhtersk, Ust-Luga and Novorossiysk ports.
