The preparations for maintenance dredging work at the Lancelin jetty, aimed to restore channel width and depth, are well underway.

“An area stretching from 60 meters south of the jetty to around 100 meters north and out well past the jetty will be dredged,” the township of Lancelin in Western Australia said in its announcement.

Some 25,000 cubic meters of sand will be sucked up, with around 8,000 cubic meters being piped along the beach to replenish the area in front of Grace Darling Park, while the remainder will be up the beach just past the north point, the release said.

The project, managed by BMT JFA consultants, will start on March 11th with the completion set for late May.

The bay was last dredged in 2010 by an excavator, however this time a floating dredge will be used, meaning the job will be completed a lot quicker and with much less disruption to those using the beach, the township of Lancelin said.
