Paul Ansah, the acting director general of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA), inspected the Tema Port expansion site earlier this week.

During the visit, the GPHA team toured the offices of Meridian Ports Services where they were hosted by the CEO of MPS, Mohammed Samara.

Mr Samara informed the delegation that 750 meters of breakwaters have been constructed so far and that one of the berths will be ready by December 2018.

The expansion works which began in October 2016, is expected to be completed and opened up for operations by the fourth quarter of 2019.

Contract for the construction of the Tema Port Expansion Project has been awarded to the China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) and AECOM professional services (Ghana).

The new Port of Tema will be able to accommodate next generation ships (up to 18.000 TEUs) and handle the increasing flows of goods to and from Ghana and the hinterland.
