Rosewood Beach was recently named one of America’s 2016 Best Restored Beaches by the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association.
The Rosewood Park restoration project, completed in 2015, involved restoring beach, bluff and ravine ecosystems along a 1,500-foot section of the west shore of Lake Michigan.
It was accomplished under the Great Lakes Fishery and Ecosystem Restoration (GLFER) program, a federal program that authorizes funding to implement projects that support beneficial uses of the Great Lakes.
The restoration project was implemented through a partnership between the Park District of Highland Park (PDHP) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funds from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency played a major role in the implementation of the GLFER project. The PDHP was solely responsible for the implementation of the recreation and education project.
