Port of Amsterdam has just announced that the HoogTij business estate in the Municipality of Zaanstad is expanding its facilities with the addition of two new structures – a port site and a seaport wharf.
The cross-port will run parallel to the North Sea Canal and will measure approximately 40 meters in width and 900 meters in length.
The wharf provides access to seagoing vessels with a depth of up to 10 meters and the first seagoing vessel is scheduled to moor in summer 2018, the port said.
The construction of the wharf coincides with the diversion of the Kanaaldijk dike along the North Sea Canal and the construction of a 10-hectare developed industrial site, the completion date of which has been brought forward.
According to the Port of Amsterdam’s announcement, the combination of these various works will boost the competitive performance of the North Sea Canal area.
Port of Amsterdam CEO, Koen Overtoom , said: “In taking on the development of the HoogTij business park, we are boosting the competitiveness of the North Sea Canal Area. This is an attractive location for logistics services providers given its vicinity to the water and the fact that it’s closely located to various exit roads.”
Dennis Straat, Alderman for the Municipality of Zaanstad, added: “These investments in HoogTij will provide additional space and opportunities, both for large seagoing vessels and for new businesses. It also provides us with the flexibility we need to facilitate businesses that are looking to expand or are currently located in areas undergoing development.”
The HoogTij business park is a partnership project of the Municipality of Zaanstad, Port of Amsterdam and the North Holland Provincial Authority.
