The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has submitted an application to perform work in the Mystic River at 80 Alford Street, Boston and Somerville, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, just announced.
The work involves dredging and discharge of fill material in order to repair an existing, deteriorated sheet pile bulkhead comprising the Mystic River shoreline.
According to the USACE’s release, this cleanup program involves the dredging of approximately 2150 cubic yards of material from the waterway and the discharge of fill material into approximately 77,300 square feet (1.8 acres) of tidal navigable waters of the United States.
The decision whether to issue a permit will be based on an evaluation of the probable impact of the proposed activity on the public interest, USACE said.
The deadline for submitting the comments is April 27, 2017.
