Dredging and blasting operations are set to start again during this week on the Port of Rauma Rihtniemi channel, according to the Finnish Transport Agency (FTA).

This cleanup scheme, stopped due to winter season, will continue with the dredging of soft material, FTA said.

Blasting operations will continue in May and June and a newly built basin, located south of the port, will be used for disposal of dredged material.

WASA Dredging, a Finnish marine offshore and inland water construction company, is the principal contractor appointed for this dredging program. Under the contract, the waterway will be deepened to 12 meters maximum authorized draught.

The completion of this capital development project is set for the end of 2017.
