The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Deputy Commanding General, Major General Rick Stevens, spent two days with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ North Atlantic Division this week.
Major General Rick Stevens yesterday participated in a pre-construction inspection of areas on Staten Island where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, will shortly be implementing a coastal storm risk management project.
Staten Island suffered the greatest loss of life from the storm surge during Hurricane Sandy in October 2012. The U.S. Congress appropriated funds to move forward with planning and construction in its aftermath.
During the visit, Frank Verga, USACE’s Project Manager, briefed Major General Rick Stevens on aspects of the Hurricane Sandy program work planned for south Staten Island.
Joe Vietri, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division (NAD) Chief of Planning, and Joe Forcina, Chief of NAD’s Sandy Coastal Management Division, attended the briefing.
Major General Rick Stevens also toured the beach and dunes along south Staten Island where a Hurricane Sandy coastal storm risk management project is planned.
