Fine Gael councilor, Maria Doyle, welcomed minister for state at the office of public works and flood relief, Sean Canney, on April 4 to the area to discuss flood prevention measures for parts of Dundalk and Blackrock.

During the visit, he met up with local residents, business owners and local interest groups to discuss the effects of floods in the area in recent years.

“I was delighted that Minister Sean Canney, who has responsibility for the OPW and flood relief, visited Blackrock today at my request to hear the concerns of local business people and community members including Blackrock Tidy Towns regarding flooding,” said councilor Doyle.

The councilor also added that while other areas of the country had received more publicity for the flooding they had endured in recent years, she didn’t want Louth to be forgotten.

The visit, arranged by local TD Peter Fitzpatrick, saw the councilor bring minister Canney to Mounthamilton on the Ardee Road and to Main Street in Blackrock.
