Preparations for the Oceanside Harbor maintenance dredging scheme are in full swing, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District.
Tractors and pipes are pre-positioned at Oceanside Beach in preparation for this $10.77 million dredging project, awarded to Manson Construction Company from Seattle, Washington, last month.
The pipes will transport beach quality sand from the harbor entrance channel to renourish the beach south of the San Luis Rey River, USACE said in its latest project update.
This beach fill scheme calls for the removal of about 280,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand from the harbor’s entrance channel and its placement along Oceanside’s beaches.
Manson towed 11 sections of high-density polyethylene, or HDPE, pipe in preparation for the beach fill activities. The contractor will connect the 500-foot sections to place sand along the beach as the project works its way south.
The dredging will start soon and it is expected to be completed prior to Memorial Day, USACE said.
