The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ New York District, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and Nassau County will host two scoping meetings for the Nassau County Back Bays, NY Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Study.

The meetings are being held pursuant to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), USACE said.

The purpose of the Nassau County Back Bays feasibility study is to investigate potential solutions to coastal storm flood damage along the back bays of Nassau County, NY. This includes but is not limited to municipalities in the Town of Hempstead and Town of Oyster Bay located within southern Nassau County, as well as the City of Long Beach.

The public is invited to learn about the feasibility study and comment on the scope of the issues and alternatives to be addressed in the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), according to USACE.
