Additional time was just added to the public comment period for the former Occidental Chemical cleanup site on Tacoma’s Hylebos Waterway, Washington State Department of Ecology said in its latest release.

“With an additional 60 days, people now have until June 26 to review and comment on potential cleanup options proposed for the contaminated site,” the announcement stated.

The Washington Department of Ecology extended the comment period on a feasibility study following a request on Tuesday from the Puyallup Tribe. This is the second extension to the comment period.

Ecology earlier doubled the length of the comment period to 90 days after community groups asked for more time.

The study lays out potential cleanup options and methods for the former Occidental Chemical Corporation site, which was contaminated from decades of chemical manufacturing, ship building and military operations.
