The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, recently presented a plan to remove around 260,000 cubic yards of sediment from approximately 2 miles of the lower San Luis Rey River.
The plan comes as a part of the overall San Luis Rey Flood Control Project in San Diego County, which was developed by USACE and the City of Oceanside.
Apart from dredging, some 150,000 cubic yards of beach compatible sand will be transported onto the beach between Seagaze and Pine Streets between September 15, 2017 and March 15, 2018. Non beach compatible sand will be transported to the El Corazon Waste Facility.
Deadline for sending comments on the proposed sediment management activities within the San Luis Rey River project area and proposed transport of beach compatible sand to City-designated beaches is May 12, 2017.
