The City of Greater Geraldton reported few days ago that the sand nourishment works will begin on Whitehill Road to provide temporary protection to the beach.

According to the city report, approximately 3000m³ of sand will be replaced on the beach during the works.

City of Greater Geraldton CEO Ken Diehm said coastal erosion is a national issue many areas face and the city is putting in measures to reduce the effects on the coastline. “ We undertook the same sand works about 12 months ago and it has proved successful ,” he said.

Tenders have closed for the coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning (CHRMAP) process and consultants will be investigating a permanent solution for the area.

“ We have been working for some time on the erosion issues at Drummond Cove and we are confident a long-term solution will soon be identified ,” Mr Diehm said. “ It is about protecting our coastline and essential community infrastructure well into the future.

Works on the Whitehill Road scheme started in late April.
