Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting from Quincy, Massachusetts, has won approximately $15 million worth contract for mechanical dredging of the New Bedford lower harbor.

Work will be performed in New Bedford, Massachusetts, with an estimated completion date of May 7, 2018.

According to the Corps, the project consists of providing materials, equipment and labor for mechanical dredging of approximately 138,000 cubic yards (CY) of material and depositing it in the Lower Harbor Confined Aquatic Disposal Cell (LHCC).

USACE added that the dredging will be performed in depths of up to 30 feet of water and as shallow as 3 feet. Sediments placed into the LHCC will be dredged using mechanical dredging equipment with an environmental bucket (closed bucket).

New Bedford harbor is located on the west side of Buzzards Bay at the mouth of the Acushnet River, in the communities of New Bedford and Fairhaven.
