Flint River Dredging Program About to Begin

A major river dredging project is set to begin in downtown Flint in about two weeks, according to the Michigan Radio.

In accordance with Part 201 of Michigan’s environmental regulations, Consumers Energy has proposed a remediation project to address Flint River sediment impacted by historical MGP operations.

“The company is completing the construction of the dewatering pad, where the spoils of the river bottom will be allowed to drain,” said Kevin Keane, Consumers Energy spokesman . “The water will be treated before it is either returned to the river or placed in the sanitary sewer system.”

The remediation activities will be completed between the Hamilton Dam and East 5th Avenue, and will include:
