USACE New England Continues to Execute FY17 Program

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers FY17 Civil Works Work Plan was finalized in late May 2017, allowing the New England District to plan for final project funding for the remainder of the fiscal year.

In Connecticut , funding is available for operation and maintenance of the 8 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs, the Stamford Hurricane Barrier, project condition surveys and inspection of completed works. Also, $500,000 is available to continue study plans for the New Haven Harbor Improvement Deepening, USACE said.

In Massachusetts , funding is available for operation and maintenance of the 12 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs, the Cape Cod Canal, the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier and for project condition surveys and inspection of completed works.

Funding is also available for maintenance dredging of Chatham (Stage) Harbor ($470,000), Green Harbor ($350,000), and Boston Harbor (($3,100,000). Also in preparation for dredging, $150,000 is available for Glouchester Harbor and Annisquam River.

Additionally, the Work Plan provides $18.2 million for Boston Harbor Deep Draft Improvement to initiate navigation improvements, $15.2 million for the Muddy River Flood Risk Management Project to complete the scheme, $230,000 for Green Harbor to complete the dredging, and $150,000 for Wellfleet Harbor for design efforts in preparation of future dredging.

In New Hampshire , funding is available for operation and maintenance of the 6 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs and for project condition surveys, inspection of completed works and $150,000 for dredging Portsmouth Harbor and Piscataqua River at Sagamore Creek.

In Vermont , funding is available for operations and maintenance of the 5 Corps-managed flood risk management reservoirs and inspection of completed works, including operation of the Narrows of Lake Champlain.

In Rhode Island , funding is available for operation and maintenance of the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier and Woonsocket Flood Risk Management project and for project condition surveys and inspection of completed works.

It also funds $350,000 for dredging the Block Island Harbor of Refuge, $350,000 for dredging the Great Salt Pond, and $200,000 to prepare plans and specifications for dredging the Providence River. Additionally, the Work Plan provides an additional $250,000 for the Providence River for environmental testing and design efforts in preparation for future maintenance dredging.

In Maine , funding is available for disposal area monitoring, inspection of completed works, project condition surveys and surveillance of northern boundary waters. Additionally, the Work Plan provides $150,000 for Wood Island Harbor for design efforts in preparation for future maintenance dredging.
