The City of Fort Lauderdale is currently seeking input on a new canal dredging assessment program, the city said in its latest release.
The city owns 57 miles of canals that require periodic dredging to remain navigable. In an effort to improve the level of service to its neighbors and maintain property values, the city has developed a proactive program to dredge city-owned canals on a seven-year cycle.
The city is considering an annual assessment for properties along the Fort Lauderdale canals to fund dredging costs.
“The assessment would be based on the number of linear feet of private property that front a City-owned canal,” the city said in its announcement.
The City of Fort Lauderdale will hold a public meeting on its canal dredging assessment program on June 12 at their Beach Community Center.
The city is inviting neighbors to attend the meeting and to provide its input on this important plan.
