Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada, representing the City Government of Manila, and officials of the Philippine Reclamation Authority led by Alberto Agra, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the 419-hectare Horizon Manila Reclamation Project on June 1.
“With another milestone project such as this one, we are getting close to achieving our dream of regaining the City of Manila’s old title, the Pearl of the Orient. This will mean a lot to us in terms of revenues and employment and business opportunities,” Mayor Estrada said.
Horizon Manila involves the construction of three islands within Manila Bay, between the Manila-Pasay border in the south and Roxas Boulevard in the east, stretching to about 3.5 kilometers off the shores of Manila Bay.
The city government stands to get 43.2 percent of the total projected revenue of the Horizon Manila Project proposed by real estate firm J-Bros Construction Corp, according to local media reports.
The project proponent will have to submit the mandatory requirements such as feasibility study, detailed engineering, geohazard studies and Environmental Compliance Certificate within six months to one year.
Once completed, the project would provide Manilenyos with thousand of job and livelihood opportunities, and add to the city’s capabilities to fund its social initiatives in the fields of health, education and even environmental management, Mayor Estrada concluded.
