Lyttelton Port of Christchurch (LPC) has applied to the local government in New Zealand for resource consents to extend the reclamation in Te Awaparahi Bay, Lyttelton Harbor/Whakaraupo, from 10 to 34 hectares, including construction of a piled wharf.
According to the port, people can make a submission to Environment Canterbury on the proposed consent conditions by 5pm on Monday, 26 June, 2017.
Ten hectares of the land has already been reclaimed following the 2010/2011 earthquakes. The additional land will enable to port to increase capacity and meet the South Island’s growing freight requirements for the next 30 years.
Moving the port operations east, away from Lyttelton’s residential area, will free up the Inner Harbor for increased community access.
The port will hold a public meeting on Saturday, 10 June 9:30am–1pm, at the Lyttelton Farmers Market to discuss the proposed reclamation at Te Awaparahi Bay.
