Recent weather conditions have temporarily suspended dredging operations in the Town of Duck.

According to the town, the weather continues to put a hold on dredging. In looking at the forecast, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock (GLDD) anticipates bringing the dredges back today to resume the work.

Due to weather conditions causing unsafe working conditions at sea, the contractor was forced to demobilize all three dredges two days ago to Norfolk, VA for safe harbor until conditions improve.

GLDD reported that during demobilization, the work areas on the beach will be consolidated until the day that the dredges return.

The Dodge and Padre Island dredges construction zone in the northern section has shifted south to approximately between 129 Acorn Ave. and 125 Sea Tern Dr. Currently, beach access in this zone is closed.

The Liberty Island dredge construction zone has also been extended slightly south from approximately 161 Bufflehead Rd. to 119 Spindrift Ln.

The demobilized beach equipment is fenced off awaiting the dredge return. Beach accesses are currently open at this location and a walkway is available behind the equipment.
