Wexford’s Courtown Harbor is to receive funding of €112,500 for basin dredging works as part of a €1 million investment in harbors from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Minister Paul Kehoe, TD for Wexford, said that this will bring tangible benefits to people working and reliant on marine industries in Wexford.

“The funding announced this week by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, is great news for the community in Courtown,” said Kehoe.

“It is vital that we have safe pier and slip facilities across Wexford. A variety of people use these whether it is for their livelihoods or during lesiure. Fine Gael is ensuring that we have the best facilities possible.”

A total of €1 million has been granted to nine coastal local authorities for 16 harbor development projects. Earlier this year, €2.8 million was approved by Minister Creed which means that 67 local authority developments have benefited under the Fishery Harbor and Coastal Infrastructure Development Program.

The local authority program forms part of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s 2017 Fishery Harbor and Coastal Infrastructure Development Program, whereby the Department co-funds up to 75% the total cost of approved projects with the local authority providing the balance.
