The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, recently awarded Riley Bridge Co., Inc. of Russellville, Alabama, a $2.3 million contract for work on a section of levee at Mississippi Highway 465.

The work consists of replacing the gravel surface of the levee with an asphalt surface on the crown.

The project is approximately 4.7 miles in length, and is located about three miles north of Lake Albermarle.

During the levee enlargement of East Bank Mississippi River Levees, Magna Vista – Brunswick, Item 468L, the asphalt surface on the crown of the levee had to be removed to complete the levee enlargement.

The work is expected to begin early August if the river stages have dropped to a point that the levee board and/or Corps officials do not need access to the crown of the levee for flood fight purposes.
