Emergency dredging work on the Ettalong Channel, set to remove about 5000 cubic meters of sand from the waterway, is officially underway at the southern end of Lobster Beach.
“Further to my announcement on Friday, the emergency dredging being funded by the NSW State Government has commenced as scheduled today,” said Terrigal state Liberal MP Adam Crouch in its latest facebook post.
Central Coast Council recently welcomed the State Government’s commitment of $150,000 for this emergency dredging of the Ettalong Channel.
Council Administrator, Mr Ian Reynolds , said that the emergency funding was welcomed but a long term solution was needed to ensure the channel remained navigable.
“This is a good interim solution while a more permanent solution and funding model to maintain the Channel are developed,” said Reynolds.
“We need to continue the conversation with the State Government and stakeholders about how this will be funded in the longer term. Council looks forward to co-operating with all parties to resolve this issue.”
The Ettalong Channel dredging scheme is expected to take three weeks.
