Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) sea defense inspections following the first storm of 2016 (Storm Angus) identified damage to the fragile coastal revetments at Broadmarsh.

In light of the regular failures of this defenses, ESCP made proposal to replace the section of damaged concrete revetment with rock revetment (used already by the ESCP at North Portsea Island) which will allow better flow through the structure and be more resilient to damage.

The repairs, funded by Havant Borough Council, are being carried out by Avon Construction Ltd. The work, which started on 7th June 2017, is expected to last for a period of 1 month.

The work will involve removal of the failed areas of defense. These locations will then be replaced using rock to form a sloping revetment. The slope of the defense will be the same as existing however the materials that will be used are different to those currently in place.
