The McGowan Government will invest more than $750,000 towards protecting vulnerable coastal areas across Western Australia, the Government of Western Australia just announced.
The funding will be provided to coastal managers such as local government authorities as part of the Coastal Adaptation and Protection (CAP) Grant scheme.
A total of 10 projects across the State will share in almost $757,000 in funding to tackle issues such as coastal erosion and risk management.
The City of Wanneroo has received the biggest share of the funding to help fund two urgent projects.
These include $299,212 for the construction of a 60 meter rock groyne at Queenscliff Park at Quinns Beach and $125,000 to reinstate safe beach access near Sovereign Drive at Two Rocks.
Key locations extending from Denham at Shark Bay to Esperance on the southern coast will also benefit from the latest round of funding.
The Shire of Esperance received $85,000 to address sand erosion along Norseman Road while the Shire of Shark Bay will assess coastal hazards with a $15,000 grant.
Meanwhile, the City of Albany received a grant of $65,128 to continue data collection and coastal management between Emu Point and Middleton Beach.
The CAP grants program, administered by the Department of Transport, provides up to 50 per cent of the total cost of a project which involves coastal construction, design, monitoring or investigation.
