GPS Marine Contractors are working on the central section of the Thames Tideway Project in readiness for the muck away for the tunneling spoil.

The company has invested in 8 new barges capable of carrying up to 1750 tonnes with a length of almost 60 meters.

The standard Eurobarge 2801 has already been shortened to 56 meters and has been converted to become a 1000 cubic meter capacity drywell hopper; as has the existing 56m 1900 series barge 1903, reported the GPS.

Using a 60 tonne long reach excavator from UK long reach specialists WM Plant Hire, the machine is dredging to remove underwater obstructions and deepen the berth pockets to accommodate the barges.

The works are being carried out for Ferrovial Laing O’Rourke with similar dredging works previously completed for the Northern Line Extension Project at Battersea.
