The second season of dredging of the Manasquan Channels in Ocean and Monmouth County officially resumed last week, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (NJDOT) latest announcement.
This is a continuation of the $3.4 million project that began in the fall of 2016 in which dredging of the Lower Manasquan River Channel and parts of Wills Hole Thorofare Channel were completed.
For the second season of dredging, NJDOT’s contractor, Village Dock Contracting, Inc., will dredge Wills Hole Thorofare, Wills Hole West, Crabtown Creek, Kingsbridge Channel and a portion of Cooks Creek in Manasquan, Point Pleasant Beach, Point Pleasant Borough and Brielle.
“Channel use will be limited where the dredge is in operation and where the pipeline is carrying dredged material to its placement location. The project is intended to run on a 24-hour/7-day a week schedule and expected to run from July to December 31,” said NJDOT.
The project will utilize Gull Island Confined Disposal Facility (CDF) as a dewatering area and where possible sand dredged from the channels will be beneficially placed on local beaches.
