Work starts today on a £22 million flood alleviation scheme for the East Riding and Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council said in its latest release.
The three-year scheme, costing £22 million, will be delivered in three phases.
The first phase of the scheme will be undertaken by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s contractor, PBS Ltd. It involves making improvements to the existing Western Drain which runs alongside Beverley Road, through Kirk Ella and Anlaby.
Existing culverts at South Ella Drive, Woodland Drive and Tranby Lane will be enlarged to increase their capacity.
To allow the first phase of work to begin there will be a series of temporary road closures on and around Beverley Road starting this month, with signed diversions put in place, the council said.
The flood alleviation scheme, which was given planning permission in March, is being carried out by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council in partnership with Hull City Council and the Environment Agency.
