A meeting for Wainui residents to discuss upcoming works as part of the Wainui Beach Erosion Management Strategy will be held on Sunday, 30 July, the Gisborne District Council said in its latest announcement.

Planned works are for sand push-ups to facilitate dune repair for suitable areas of Wainui Beach and rock wall improvements at the end of Tuahine Crescent.

There are also plans to remove rock installed under the emergency works provisions of the RMA from behind 21 Wairere Road.

GDC’s rivers, coastal and drainage manager, Neil Daykin, said that the cost of that project would depend on what the community decided was necessary.

The meeting will take place at Wainui Surf Club on Sunday, from 11am to 1pm and is open to anybody to drop in any time to ask questions and discuss the proposed works and maintenance of structures in the coastal marine area, and within private property, the council said.
