The town of Surfside Beach, SC, has just released the latest update on their beach renourishment program, saying that the booster pumps have caused some mechanical delays, due to hose ruptures, over the last couple of days.
According to the announcement, these have been replaced and the contractor – Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD) – plans to resume the sand pumping operations today.
“The current work zone is from 13th to 16th North. All other areas are open at this time,” said the town.
Once the operation resumes, GLDD will be working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Surfside Beach renourishment scheme is being performed under the $26.3 million contract for the Myrtle Beach Storm Damage Reduction Project. During the works, GLDD will place approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of material on North Myrtle Beach and Garden City and Surfside Beaches.
This project is funded through federal emergency beach rehabilitation funding from Hurricane Matthew, along with cost-shared construction funding appropriated through Congress.
