Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Co-Chair of the House Great Lakes Task Force, yesterday commended the arrival of $375,000 in funds to the Great Lakes Commission to help restore wetlands in the Maumee River Area of Concern.
“The Maumee River is the largest tributary to feed the Great Lakes and is the terminus of the largest watershed in the Great Lakes region. These funds are an important part of our effort to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect this precious natural resource and the drinking water of millions of Americans,” said Kaptur.
“This money, awarded to the capable experts at the Great Lakes Commission, will help keep our water clean and enhance our commitment to protect the Great Lakes.”
The funds were made possible through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
According to the Great Lakes Commission, the funds will be used to develop engineering design plans to restore wetland habitat at the Penn 7 site in the Maumee River Area of Concern.
