Shoreline erosion will be mitigated at Wild Cattle Creek, Tannum Sands, with management works to begin Tuesday, August 8, reports Gladstone Regional Council.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said that contractors would undertake a sandpush to re-profile the shoreline and repair the existing vertical drop.
“ The method, which involves the transfer of built-up sand, will be completed within a three-week timeframe (August 29), weather permitting ,” Councillor Burnett said.
Cr Burnett said that work would generally occur on weekdays and pose no disruption to this weekend’s Beach, Arts and Music festival. “ Throughout the project’s duration, the contractor will only work a Saturday if tidal conditions are advantageous ,” he said.
The project forms part of Council’s Boyne-Tannum Shoreline Erosion Management Plan (SEMP). The SEMP outlines a framework for managing current and future erosion in a manner that is consistent with the Coastal Protection and Management Act (1995).
