The laying of the first block for the Saqr Port expansion project, aimed to create two additional berths capable of accepting capesize vessels, took place earlier this month, RAK Ports said in its latest announcement.

The first block was placed by principal works contractor BAM International, and this important milestone was attended by members of the RAK Ports team including General Manager Captain Cliff Brand.

The overall project will involve the dredging of the seaward side of the existing breakwater to a depth of 18 meters and construction of 700 meters of additional quay wall.

This capital expansion scheme will also include a significant amount of land reclamation operations in the area between new and existing quay.
