New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. yesterday announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the Department of Environmental Protection a grant of $55 million to reimburse the state’s Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
The work being reimbursed provided for the removal of the sand and silt debris impacting state maintained navigable waterways as a result of Sandy.
“Grants like this provide much-needed financial relief to our local governments as communities continue to recover from Sandy by repairing our local infrastructure, including economically important navigable waterways,” said Congressman Pallone.
“New Jerseyans have shown tremendous determination and resilience and I am pleased to see FEMA reimbursing New Jersey for this much needed work.”
In 2013, Congressman Pallone helped pass the Superstorm Sandy Supplemental Appropriations bill, bringing the total Sandy aid enacted by Congress to $60.2 billion.
The funding package included federal aid to help homeowners, businesses and communities recover, and resources to rebuild coastal, transportation and water infrastructure.
