DEME’s subsidiary MEDCO (Middle East Dredging Company) has been awarded a contract for the Old Doha Port Redevelopment project in Qatar.

In Singapore, DIAP (Dredging International Asia Pacific Pte Ltd) also secured a contract for the Ayer Merbau Reclamation Phase 2 project, DEME said in its latest release.

The total value of these contracts amounts to approximately EUR 170 million.

Old Port Redevelopment Qatar

For the Old Doha Port Redevelopment project in Qatar MEDCO will execute the dredging works for the realignment of the access channel. Works also include the construction of a new mooring dolphin structure.

The works follow the completion of the New Port Project in Qatar, for which MEDCO successfully carried out the dredging of the access channel. The New Port is now fully operational and all commercial shipping traffic has been moved from the Old Port in Doha City to the New Port.

With a growing cruise tourism industry, the Ministry of Transport and Communication of the State of Qatar is implementing a redevelopment program for the Old Doha Port.

The port will serve as a cruise terminal in the future, able to accommodate the largest cruise ships of the last generation, according to DEME.

The contract for this project, set to begin in 2018, will be carried out by MEDCO in joint venture with Jan De Nul Group.

Ayer Merbau Reclamation Phase 2 in Singapore

Dredging International Asia Pacific Pte Ltd (DIAP, DEME’s subsidiary for the South East Asia region), in a joint venture with Starhigh Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, has been awarded a Design and Build contract for 35 ha of land reclamation as an extension to Jurong Island for JTC Corporation, the Singapore Government’s lead agency for the development of industrial infrastructure.

The scope includes design of the works, the hydraulic study of the reclamation channel, land side site clearance, bund construction with shore protection, dredging of sandkey, soil improvement works, sand supply, re-use of marine dredged material, sorted rock and land-based excavated material, drainage and maintenance/diversion of the existing drainage system.

DIAP will deploy a spud grab dredge for the dredging works.

The works on this project will be executed according to the provisions of the environmental assessment and the requirements of the environmental monitoring and management program and navigation safety.
