The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, yesterday awarded a $4.66 million contract to Orion Marine Construction for the maintenance dredging of Tampa Harbor, Hillsborough Bay, FL.

According to the FedBizOpps, the project consists of the ‘base work’ with segments of maintenance dredging of shoal material from Tampa Harbor Upper Channels.

Channel segments include; Upper and Lower Sparkman, Port Sutton Channel, Port Sutton Terminal Channel, Port Sutton Turning Basin, East Bay Channel, East Bay Extensions 1 and 2. The project depth will range from 34 to 43 feet plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth.

The four options include maintenance dredging of the Tampa Harbor Ybor Channel, St. Pete Turning Basin, and St. Pete Entrance Channel 1 and 2.

All material excavated during the works will be placed in the designated area of the Dredge Material Placement Facility 3D (DMPF-3D), which is located approximately 7.0 nautical miles south from the dredging locations in Tampa Harbor and approximately 12.0 nautical miles from St. Petersburg Harbor.

With respect to the base, the total quantity to be dredged is approximately 150,000 cubic yards, while the total quantity to be dredged for all four options is approximately 125,000 cubic yards of material.

Work also includes environmental species observers, turbidity monitoring, bird monitoring, sea turtle trawl sweeping and relocation, mobilization and operation and maintenance of DMPF 3-D.
