The U.S. Coast Guard said in its latest announcement that the Shark River dredging program in Neptune City, NJ, is set to begin on September 5, 2017.
The Captain of the Port, Delaware Bay, has determined that the hazards associated with dredge piping and dredge operations in the main navigational channel create the need for a safety zone to ensure safety of vessels transiting this portion and for workers engaged in dredging operations on the Shark River.
According to the announcement, “the safety zone will close the main navigational channel on the Shark River from latitude 40°10’54.20″N, longitude 74° 1 ‘51.05 “W, bounded by the eastern side of the channel and the western side of the channel, north, to latitude 40°11’6.87″N, longitude 74° 1’53.54″, during times of dredging.”
The Shark River dredging work is a continuation of the $7.6 million effort aimed at bringing portions of the Shark River Channel and the Shark River Channel Spur to full depth and width improving conditions for both commercial and recreational boaters in the area.
In addition to Monmouth County and the state, the municipalities of Neptune City, Neptune Township, Wall Township, and Belmar all contributed to the financial commitments for the project.
