For the last couple of days, the Surfside Beach Renourishment Project has been brought to a halt due to the tropical depression running by the east coast.

The town reported that beach fill operations have been delayed several days due to the weather and high seas.

But, according to the Town of Surfside Beach latest update, the hopper dredges are returning and the contractor expects to begin pumping sand again today. “ The contractor – the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD) – will proceed southward with the project until they reach the next feed pipe located in Garden City.”

When they reach the Garden City point all pipes located in Surfside Beach will be removed, the town added.

The Surfside Beach Renourishment work is part of a wider campaign, the $26.3 million Myrtle Beach Storm Damage Reduction Project.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, awarded the contract to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC, to place approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of material on North Myrtle Beach, Garden City and Surfside Beaches.
