The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, will host informational outreach events featuring discussions about coastal processes, erosion and the Corps’ Regulatory Program.

These events, facilitated by the Corps staff, will discuss: effects of lake levels on coastal erosion, other things affecting coastal erosion, the role of dunes in protecting coastal bluffs, coastal geology and erosion, summary of the Corps Regulatory Program and permitting requirements, a brief overview of Corps planning, programs and authorities with an interactive beach walk to illustrate these coastal processes.

“These forums will provide an opportunity to interact with Corps personnel to discuss erosion and working along shorelines; such as when a permit is required from the Corps; and if there are Corps programs that can help, ” the district said in its release.

Speakers are Corps’ Detroit District team members from the Great Lakes Hydraulics & Hydrology, Regulatory and Planning offices led by Jim Selegean, Ph.D., hydraulic engineer, Great Lakes Hydraulics & Hydrology office. Selegean is the lead of the district’s coastal engineering and field measurements group.

These forums will be held at the following locations:
