The City of North Myrtle Beach said in its latest release that rough sea conditions will delay the start of their emergency beach renourishment project.
The dredgers Dodge Island and Padre Island are in stand-down due to current rough sea conditions, which means that the contractor, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, will complete work on the Garden City/Surfside Beach project a bit later than anticipated.
The contractor will continue to monitor sea conditions and the dredgers will resume pumping operations when conditions allow.
Meanwhile, the contractor will continue to introduce sections of pipe and other equipment to North Myrtle Beach in order to be positioned to begin work as soon as possible, according to the announcement.
Designed and paid for by the USACE, the sole purpose of the project is protect the beach from storm surge and/or high tide.
