With an aim to promote waterway transportation in the city, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has decided to invest around $90 million in two river dredging projects.
According to the local media, the People’s Committee recently approved two river dredging projects in District 9 that will improve the capacity of its waterways to transport cargo and reduce the pressure on roads.
The first project, worth approximately $38 million, is for the dredging of two canals linking the Môn and Kinh Rivers and the Bà Đa – Giáng canal, and building two bridges along Long Thuận Street and Long Thuận Street Extension.
The second scheme, estimated at $51.6 million, includes the dredging of the Tac River and the construction of a new Truong Phuoc Bridge that will replace the old one.
The Government expects work on the projects to start later in 2017 with the completion set for 2019.
