Residents from across Portsmouth will have a chance to come and meet the team behind the Southsea Coastal Scheme at a series of public events.

The scheme is responsible for delivering new flood defenses along 4.5km of seafront, from Old Portsmouth to Eastney, to help protect Southsea from major flood events.

“ The ambition is to create new defenses that embrace everything we all love about the seafront. The work will transform the seafront for future generations, while protecting homes and the heritage that is so important to the people of Portsmouth ,” said the Portsmouth City Council .

According to the council, during these events, the public will able to find out why this work needs to be carried out and see the research that has been undertaken which has led to the outline concept for the defenses. There will also be some initial sketches of design ideas, and residents will have a chance to give their feedback.

Cllr Robert New, Portsmouth City Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety said: “ With designers now on board and beginning their work, we think that this is an ideal opportunity to invite residents to come and meet the team who will be delivering these vital new defenses.”

The events will take place on the following dates:

The Southsea Coastal Scheme is a Portsmouth City Council project being delivered through the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership, with funding from the Environment Agency. A specialist team has been selected to design the scheme. This team is led by Balfour Beatty, and supported by Arup and Ramboll.
