Manson Construction Co., Seattle, Washington, has been awarded a $26.6 million firm-fixed-price contract for dredging of Morehead City, Wilmington, Savannah and Brunswick harbors, reports the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, expects project to be completed by April 30, 2018.

According to the Corps, the Brunswick Harbor maintenance dredging work will require hopper dredges to complete the work.

The vessels need to have the capability to dredge fine sands and silts to a depth of -40 MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment up to 15 miles to the dump location, at the Brunswick Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS), reported USACE.

The maintenance dredging of Savannah Harbor will also be performed by hopper dredges, added the Corps. The dredge must have the capability to dredge fine sands and silts to a depth of -51 MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment up to 15 miles to the dump location.

The work for Wilmington Harbor Outer Ocean Bar will consist of maintenance dredging of Wilmington Harbor Baldhead Shoal Channel Reach 3, Southport Channel and Battery Island Channel. Dredging depth is 44′ plus 2′ of allowable over depth. The Government furnished disposal area is the Wilmington Harbor Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site, said USACE.

The maintenance dredging of the Morehead City Harbor Cutoff and Range A will include removal and disposal of shoaled material that has accumulated in the channels. Dredging depth is 45 feet plus 2 feet of allowable overdepth. Disposal of dredged material will be in the Nearshore Placement Area.

Overall, approximately 3.5 million CY of dredged material is to be removed by the contractor during the works.
