The City of Port Richey long-awaited dredging project is officially underway, according to the Pasco County Commissioner Jack Mariano.
A hydraulic excavator equipped with a clamshell bucket started the dredging project on October 31, 2017.
Port Richey Mayor Dale Massad said that the city officials have been pursuing this channel-dredging project for almost 17 years now. “ This is a climax in my career in the city. After the 4-0 approval of the mid-June bid, the contract was awarded to Bio Mass Tech Inc.”
According to the city, this is a massively complex and costly project that will provide numerous benefits to all of Port Richey’s citizens. The officials hope that the channel-dredging project will boost local marine industry and the city’s hospitality district along the Pithlachascotee River.
Out of the city’s 30 residential and commercial canals and channels, the first to be dredged is Channel 19, located just east of U.S. 19. Once this portion of the project is complete, the dredging operations will continue at the Channel 1 and Channel 18.
The dredging project is supervised by the City Manager and managed by Taylor Engineering.
