The town of Old Saybrook is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, to replace a pier and dock and do other work in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
The work is located at the intersection of Ferry Road and Clark Street in the Connecticut River.
According to the Corps, the proposed work involves the removal of the existing pier and dock configuration and the construction of an approximately 218 linear foot by 8-foot wide, pile-supported fixed timber pier; the installation of ten, 8-foot by 20-foot floating docks with associated 3.5-foot by 22-foot ramps and associated piles.
Also included is the installation of 25 fender tie-off piles; the installation of a 10-foot wide by approximately 100-foot long floating dock with associated 6-foot by 22-foot ramp anchored by two, 3 batter-braced pile float restraints.
The purpose of the proposed project is to create a municipal pier and dock in support of commercial fishing and recreational boating.
Further consultation with the National Marine Fisheries Service regarding EFH conservation recommendations is being conducted and will be concluded prior to the final permit decision, reported the Corps.
