The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announced today the closure of Pope Road in St. Augustine Beach starting November 27th for the next scheduled renourishment of the St. Johns County Shore Protection Project.

According to the Corps, Pope Road will be an equipment staging area, remaining closed for the duration of the project. Construction begins in November and will last for approximately four months (weather pending).

Marinex Construction, Inc. will place approximately 800,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand from the navigation channel and ebb shoal onto eroded areas. This project will renourish critically eroded shoreline between the southern limits of Anastasia State Park and 8th St. in St. Augustine Beach.

USACE also added that the beach will remain open to residents and visitors outside the work areas. The contractor expects to temporarily close at least 1,200 feet of the beach at a time during the renourishment project. Public access over the dredging pipes will occur roughly over 200 to 300 feet.
