Dare County has just posted the latest update on their Buxton Beach nourishment project, saying that the hopper dredger R.N. Weeks returned to the area and resumed pumping earlier this week.

Weather and marine conditions permitting, pumping operations will continue to proceed south in front of the village, the county said.

According to the contractor, Weeks Marine, as of Tuesday, November 21, approximately 48% of the contract volume has been placed on the beach.

The Buxton Beach Nourishment Project will not be finished until at least mid-February, staff from Coastal Science Engineers (CSE) said during the latest Dare County Board of Commissioners’ meeting.

Upon completion of this coastal project, the widened shoreline will provide increased defense from coastal storms and beach erosion protecting property, communities and infrastructure located along the shoreline.
