Stage two of the NSW Government’s $1.68 million dredging program at Yamba is currently underway, Nationals Member for Clarence, Chris Gulaptis, announced today.
“ This work will improve boating safety and navigation in the Clarence River at Yamba ,” Mr Gulaptis said.
“Stage 1 was completed in 2016 and saw around 18,000 cubic meters of sand dredged and used to renourish Whiting Beach at Yamba.
“Stage 2 will involve the removal of around 30,000 cubic meters of sand from the approach channel to Yamba Boat Harbor. The sand will be taken around seven kilometers offshore for disposal.
“The dredging work at Yamba is funded through the NSW Government’s Dredging of Priority Waterways on the North Coast program.”
Mr Gulaptis said that the dredging work in these areas is paramount to improving safety and navigation for users of these waterways and it also provides a direct benefit to the local economy through providing better and easier access to the waterways for both commercial and recreational boat users.
Dredging work will stop over the Christmas period Friday, 22 December, to Monday, 15 January, 2018, with project expected to be completed by the end of March 2018, according to official announcement.
