The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, is currently conducting dredging operations at the Back Basin in Chesapeake City, Md.

Jade Creek Construction won the $2.19 million contract to dredge the basin to a depth of 10 feet earlier in October.

Additional dredging is being conducted east of the basin in the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, said USACE.

This cleanup scheme represents the culmination of a long-term effort between the Army Corps of Engineers and the Maryland Department of the Environment.

The project is expected to be completed in late January, 2018.
